The top five focus areas for 2023 based on survey responses from 46 business architecture professionals include the following:

  • Expanding how business architecture is used for value — 26 responses
  • Socializing business architecture with others — 25 responses
  • Establishing a new business architecture practice within the organization — 21 responses
  • Creating a new business architecture baseline (e.g., capabilities, value streams, and cross-mapping) – 21 responses
  • Establishing or enhancing business architecture governance — 19 responses

Below are the comments provided by participants:

  • Related to leveraging business architecture for value, one participant indicated that their team’s focus for 2023 is “SDG/ESG modelling and reporting (with an outside/in requirement definition to match organizational purpose).” Another indicated “establishing the business architecture value proposition and using it to deliver early value.”
  • Related to integrating with other teams, one participant indicated “Our focus this year is to form tighter relationships with the technical EAs.”  Another indicated “designing business architecture involvement in SAFe teams and ways of working.”
  • “We need to make a major shift to an immature practice following the merging of 3 teams with very different mindsets, bus arch roles and practices, and involvement within an agile-SAFe context. The approach is to favor a first complete iteration with the new team (VP Bus Arch & Data Strat)”
